On October 5, 2020, the District received notification of a break in a 20-inch recycled water main pipeline located in the vicinity of 1250 Olympic Parkway in Chula Vista. The City of Chula Vista Fire Department. and Police Department called the District¿s 24-hour water emergency line at 11:45 p.m. and reported the information to the answering service. The District¿s on-duty operator was notified by the answering service and responded by going to the site of the break. A flow alarm from the recycled water pump station that feeds the affected pipeline was also received by the on-duty operator, the alarm came in at 11:29 p.m. Recycled water was flowing out of the break in the pipeline onto the street and into a storm drain located just west of where the break occurred. The amount of recycled water discharged from the pipeline was estimated to be about 2.301 million gallons based on the amount of water loss in the reservoir that feeds the pipeline and the excess pump flow during the period of time before flow was shutoff to the pipeline. |
