Order Conditions |
Mature cows are being composted onsite on native soil with dairy generated manure. The composting manure is then land applied. According to the operator of the dairy Santa Barbara County authorized this activity. Central Coast Water Board staff contacted Santa Barbara County Environmental Health Services and asked about them giving authorization to compost dead cattle at the Cuyama Dairy. Santa Barbara EHS stated they would not allow this type of management for dead animals unless it was some type of declared emergency and quarantine. Water Board staff asks that Cuyama Dairy cease composting of dead animals onsite or provide evidence of authorization to do so by a regulatory agency. |
