Between July 24 and August 1, 2020. The Discharger placed 377,000 gallons of untreated groundwater in a 40,000 ft2 earthen swale with a maximum of 2.5 feet. On July 29, 2020, an adjacent property owner collected grab samples without notifying the discharger. On July 31, 2020, a one page summary of the analyses was sent to the Discharger and the City of Newark showing pollutant concentrations above groundwater ESLs. On August 1, 2020, the Discharger ceased groundwater pumping into the swale per City of Newark''s request while waiting for own confirmation samples collected on July 30. The Discharger then diverted all water from the dewatering operation to the treatment system being installed at Harbor Point site. On August 4, 2020, the Discharger confirmed the initial sampling results from July 29, 2020.
No information regarding pollutant concentrations found at the earthen swale were provided in this 5-day report. |
By August 4, 2020, the Discharger could not divert water from earthen swale because it had mostly seeped underground or evaporated. To prevent this event from reoccurring, the Discharger will send "all future water from the dewatering operation associated to the Gateway site will be diverted to the onsite system at the Harbor Pointe area. |

The discharge began decommissioning the treatment system on January 1-24-20 as dewatering, at that moment, was no longer needed. The dewatering wells were removed before 1-24-20.
However, as of 8-19-20, the discharger is operating a different dewatering system with a different well network. |
