Type: Category 1 Spill; Pump Station Failure - Mechanical caused 4037 gallons of sewage to spill from Pump Station at San Bernardino Lift Station Pump Failure (06-15-26) - Regional CS to Paved Surface,Unpaved Surface,Drainage Conveyance System |
Repaired Facilities or Replaced Defect. The failure involved a mixture of potable water and wastewater leaking from the seal of Pump #3. Upon discovery, Pump #3 was immediately removed from service. The stormwater catch basin inlet was protected with a tarp, sandbags, and a berm to prevent additional flow into Mulberry Ditch. Pump #4 was also removed from service due to similar noise and will be inspected before being returned to operation. Pump #3 was replaced with a new pump, and the failed unit was sent for inspection to determine the cause of failure. The San Bernardino Lift Station was placed on bypass due to reduced pumping capacity, and operational monitoring was increased. Capital improvement projects (EN23036 and EN25071) are underway to improve lift station reliability and containment. Vibration analysis data and pump alarm setpoints will be reviewed and adjusted to improve early detection of equipment degradation and prevent similar failures in the future. |
