Chlorine, Total Residual Instantaneous Maximum limit is 0.1 mg/L and reported value was 0.48 mg/L at M-001. |
Operations staff responded within the hour and corrected the issue. The underlying cause appears to have been an air lock on the suction side of the peristaltic SBS pump preventing the desired amount of SBS from pumping to the plant effluent. The issue was resolved the same day and no additional issues have occurred. |

CAT2 |
Chlorine, Total Residual Instantaneous Maximum limit is 0.1 mg/L and reported value was 1.1 mg/L at M-001. |
The cause of the exceedance was likely due to the swapping of sodium bisulfite (SBS) bulk tanks during SBS chemical delivery which may have impacted dosing rates.
The supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system detected the increased total chlorine residual at the effluent and activated a SBS backup pump until the chlorine residual decreased to below the SCADA setpoint of 0.05 mg/L of total chlorine residual. As a corrective action, the SBS backup pump speed will be increased from 10% to 15% to increase SBS dosing to reduce the residual in a shorter amount of time when chlorine residuals increase above the SCADA setpoint.

Turbidity 24-hour Average limit is 2 NTU and reported value was 6 NTU at M-001. |
Once the issue was identified, a second bio-reactor was placed online. WRCRWA has two bio-reactors. With the second bio-reactor operational, approximately 25-30% of plant flows can be sent to this bio-reactor. This distributed the solids loading between the two bio-reactors, correcting the turbidity excursions. |
