Total Coliform Not to exceed a specific limit more than once within any 30-day period. limit is 23 MPN/100 mL and reported value was 52.9 MPN/100 mL at EFF-001. |
During the end of November and beginning of December, we experienced an issue with the facility's effluent sampling pump, which had been in continuous service for approximately six years. Investigation determined that the flow through the sample pump had become excessively restricted, resulting in internal buildup within the pump and sampling lines. This condition contributed to the coliform detections observed in the samples.
To address the issue, a new sampling pump and sample lines were ordered. In the interim, the existing pump was replumbed and returned to operation at its intended design flow rate. The issue was resolved by mid-December.
To verify the source of the detections, grab samples were collected from both channels downstream of the final UV banks. These samples produced significantly cleaner results, confirming that the sampling equipment, not the effluent quality, was the source of the coliform hits.
Based on these findings, the affected data were rejected as unrepresentative. The sampling system is now operating as designed, and no further coliform issues have been observed. |
