Light Foam/ Bubbles on water surface observed at River Station R4 |
Data review and additional testing for plant effluent and river stations MBAS & CTAS revealed that these surfactants are not the cause of the light foam/bubbles. Further river observation & photos show light foam/Bubbles in the river receiving water where the plant flow cascades down a few feet of a rocky bank to the river channel. Foam/Bubbles were also documented upstream of the plant's discharge in the river upstream of and at river station R3, between river station R3 and R4, as well as at Canada Larga Creek prior to the creek discharge into the river channel below river station R5 which is well downstream from the plant's discharge to the receiving water at river station R4. There is foam/bubbles in the plant at points downstream of the tertiary filters where flow cascades over weirs, not seen at plant discharge defoamer prior to flow dropping down an embankment to the river, but is seen after plant discharge cascades down the embankment to the river channel. Being that foam/bubbles are in the river in several places upstream of the plant's discharge point into the river receiving water and well down stream of the plant' discharge point at Canada Larga Creek before it even reaches the river channel below OVSD's river station R5. We have concluded that the light foam/bubbles are naturally occurring and due to cold water temperatures and increased surface water tension is causing some bubbles to remain on the river water surface. |
