OES Call (#21-7175) was made to report a 20,000-gallon spill due to a sewer main blockage. The spill occurred on 15 December 2021 caused by a combination of a heavy rain event and improper disposal of foreign materials on the sewer collections system such as ammo, grease, grit, sand, rags, clothing, tools and alike. Excess sewage was taken to the Fort Irwin Waste Water Treatment facility - ponds onsite and routed through the system. |
A vacuum truck was used to capture as much of the ponded sewage as possible. 16 feet of sewer line main was replaced with new 24-inch pipe. Disinfection was completed. Excess fluid collected has been run through the waste water treatment plant. One final corrective action is pending: disposal of contaminated soil (pending Army, CH2M Hill discussion on how to dispose of munitions found in the soil). |
