Total Suspended Solids (TSS) Monthly Average limit is 30 mg/L and reported value was 32 mg/L at M-001. |
The City of Calipatria is looking for funds to address the lack of proper aeration in Pond #1 to enhance the TSS removal. This pond has a thick sludge blanket accumulated along the years, which negatively affects the whole treatment process. Furthermore, the use of ferric sulfate at low dose in the effluent chemical contact chamber should assist in the more efficient removal of this constituent. |

Total Suspended Solids (TSS) Monthly Average limit is 30 mg/L and reported value was 31 mg/L at M-001. |
There are several approaches to mitigate or solve the problem:
1. Use of ferric sulfate (coagulant) at low dose in the effluent chemical contact chamber.
2. Granules of copper sulfate (algicide) has been applied at the outlet structure of Pond #4.
3. Water jetting the pipeline located between the outlet of Pond #4 and the effluent chemical contact chamber (particulate matter has been observed)
4. The purchase of more aeration units has been initiated. Aeration is vital for enhance the efficiency of the whole process in the four facultative ponds. |

Total Suspended Solids (TSS) Monthly Average (Mean) limit is 30 mg/L and reported value was 31 mg/L at M-001. |
Ferric sulfate (coagulant) has been used with partial success. This month (January 2023), the use of copper sulfate (algicide) has been implemented for the first time; granules are put in small filter bags (about 3 lbs) once a month with the goal of remove the algae. Other possible solution is the practice of water jetting the mentioned pipeline more often. Close monitoring of the particulate matter will be implemented. |

Total Suspended Solids (TSS) Monthly Average limit is 30 mg/L and reported value was 31.5 mg/L at M-001. |
Two actions will be implemented to solve this problem:
1) Removal of algae with more frequency from the inner walls of the pipe located between Pond #4 (outlet) and the effluent chemical contact chamber.
2) Use of ferric sulfate (coagulant) at minor dosages should provide TSS enhance removal. |

Total Suspended Solids (TSS) Monthly Average (Mean) limit is 30 mg/L and reported value was 33.5 mg/L at M-001. |
(Same explanation as weekly average violation).
-Removal of algae chunks from ponds.
-Use of ferric sulfate as a coagulant. |

Total Suspended Solids (TSS) Weekly Average (Mean) limit is 45 mg/L and reported value was 48 mg/L at M-001. |
Dead algae chunks that generates particulate matter (suspended solids) will be removed promptly from the ponds, especially from Pond #4 and from the sodium hypochlorite vault. Control of TSS will be enhanced with the use of ferric sulfate (coagulant) at low doses. Furthermore, natural enzymes will be applied in Pond #1, which has a thick sludge layer (high levels of nutrients and organic matter); this may create a favorable environment for algae growth in all the ponds. |

Total Suspended Solids (TSS) Weekly Average (Mean) limit is 45 mg/L and reported value was 50 mg/L at M-001. |
All the ponds gradually lowered the water levels, and the flow went back to normal. Average flow for December was 1.058 MGD. It is expected to get a significant reduction regarding the flow for January 2022.
Operators will keep monitoring the ponds water levels and minimize the chance that the pipeline will plug again. It is expected that water jetting the PVC line will control the problem. |
