Type of Diversion |
Both Direct Diversion and Diversion to Storage |
Comments |
Amount diverted to storage is estimated based on License for 1,200 AcFt per year. Water fills Silver Lake with rain and snow melt. During spring runoff, water flows out Silver Lake Dam spillway and down Silver Cr to point of diversion. Water flow is measured where pipeline enters Spanish Ranch, which is Amount Used. This usage is 500 gal/min, or 66.3 AcFt/Month. Water is used as reported herein and excess flows out end of pipe into Pine Leaf Cr, which flows back to Spanish Creek.
Amount directly diverted is estimated to be pipeline capacity during spring flows over spillway. When that stops, the dam outlet is opened and flow is electronically measured from dam, which then flows down Silver Creek to point of diversion where pipeline carries the water to Spanish Ranch for use. |

There are 12 houses and 4 mobile homes located on Spanish Ranch. Water for domestic consumption originally came from Silver Creek. Several years ago domestic wells were drilled and water lines installed to provide domestic consumption water. Water for landscaping, pasture irrigation, and fire protection is provided by the water drawn from Silver Lake and Gold Lake as historically the case.
