4. Changes in Method of Diversion
Since the last report, the cattle lessee on Spanish Ranch has installed sprinkler systems to irrigate the majority of irrigated acreage on Spanish Ranch, which has resulted in much greater efficiency of water use than the prior flood irrigation. Silver Lake water is stored up over the winter and spring melt. Water is released from Silver Lake by natural spillway during winter and spring melt, and by dam discharge during summer and fall. Water is captured at the Point of Diversion on Silver Creek several miles below Silver Lake and transported to Spanish Ranch by way of a pipeline. Depending upon the amount of precipitation from winter/spring, in or about May to end of June the outlet gate at the dam is opened to provide water flow down to the point of diversion. During winter, water is used exclusively for fire protection, and during spring-fall it is used for fire protection, stock watering, dust abatement and irrigation.

Type of Diversion Both Direct Diversion and Diversion to Storage
Comments The water right is for 1,200 Ac Ft. Amounts shown for diversion to storage are approximate and estimated as little to no flows occur through measuring devices installed at the dam weir (gate shut during winter) and the pipeline. During winter months the water in the pipeline is mostly static. The pipeline is full but no use unless there is a fire, when water would be drawn from the pipeline by fire hydrants located on the ranch. Excess water flows down Silver Creek and provides habitat for fish and other aquatic species, plus other wildlife.

M28. Describe any documents related to this measurement device or method that are attached to this water use report
8. Conservation of Water
a. Are you now employing water conservation efforts? Yes
Describe any water conservation efforts you have initiated Flood irrigation of pastures has been used for years. This year the cattle lessee installed sprinkler systems, which has increased efficiency of water delivery substantially.
b. Amount of water conserved
I have data to support the above surface water use reductions due to conservation efforts.
9. Water Quality and Wastewater Reclamation
a. Are you now or have you been using reclaimed water from a wastewater treatment facility, desalination facility, or water polluted by waste to a degree which unreasonably affects such water for other beneficial causes? No
b. Amount of reduced diversion
Type of substitute water supply
Amount of substitute water supply used
I have data to support the above surface water use reductions due to the use of a substitute water supply
10. Conjuctive Use of Surface Water and Groundwater
a. Are you now using groundwater in lieu of surface water? Yes
b. Amount of groundwater used 0.5 Acre-Feet
I have data to support the above surface water use reductions due to the use of groundwater. No
Additional Remarks
The measurement system installed at Silver Lake was installed part way through the reporting period, so the data is not conclusive on water use. Reported volumes are estimates based on past useage. The 2018 reporting will be based entirely on precise measurements using the Data Logger at Silver Lake Dam.
