3. Purpose of Use

Stockwatering 60+ cattle
Fish and Wildlife Preservation and Enhancement Fish and wildlife
4. Changes in Method of Diversion
No change in method of diversion. The right supplies water to Eastern pastures of Spanish Ranch in Meadow Valley, Plumas County, CA. Due to watercourse cutting from recent flood events, the creek level has dropped significantly to the point that water must be pumped out of Spanish Creek for irrigation when needed. To pump out the water requires damming the creek with rocks, which has not been desirable recently, and which has not been done for several years during the drought. During 2016 all water was left in Spanish Creek for fish and wildlife enhancement. Cattle can access the creek at spots near the point of diversion for watering.

Type of Diversion Direct Diversion Only
Comments This water right is known as the Lower Spanish Creek diversion and provides water to the Eastern pasture on Spanish Ranch. Reported numbers above reflect an estimated amount of water from this pre-1914 claim that is available for irrigation but was left in the watercourse for fish and wildlife enhancement. To use this water for irrigation would require at least a temporary stone coffer dam to raise the water to allow pumping water from Spanish Creek onto the pasture when needed. At this time other water (Silver Creek Pipeline) has been able to provide the irrigation needs. Stock can drink from Spanish Creek near this diversion.
