Comments This water statement, S004762, is for water diverted out of Gold Lake, Plumas County, CA. In 1880 a small dam and ditch were constructed to take the waters of Gold Lake and transport them into Silver Lake from where they were further sent to hydraulic gold mining and ranching uses throughout an extensive system of ditches to the various points of use. The use of Gold Lake water continued until about 1905 when the ditch to Silver Lake was abandoned and the water allowed to flow down Jacks Meadow Creek to Silver Creek, and down Silver Creek to the point of diversion for this water right. The water right is a deeded right to all the water from Gold Lake dating from 1880; however, the flow is the natural flow in the watercourse these days. The amount diverted stated above is from estimates of what was claimed and used over the years. Currenly, much of the water remains in the watercourses for fish and wildlife, but depending upon the year, much of the amount stated in the chart above is diverted into the Silver Creek pipeline and taken to Spanish Ranch for the uses listed in this report.

Additional Remarks
This water right consists of the natural outflow from Gold Lake, which flows down Jacks Meadow Creek into Silver Creek. Gold Lake is located within a federally designated Wilderness area, Bucks Lake Wilderness. To install measurement devices there may be a violation of the Wilderness Act. Measurement down Jacks Meadow Creek or in Silver Creek picks up secondary sources of water (springs, small creeks) beyond that flowing from Gold Lake. Most water coming from Gold Lake remains in the watercourses for fish and wildlife at this point. In the future, hydro-electric generation at Spanish Ranch may be an option, at which time Soper Company will want to use its full allotment of water rights. Soper Company is preparing a request for additional time to begin measurements so we can develop feasible alternatives for accurately measuring water use of Gold Lake
