Comments |
Note: Drought conditions reduced the flow in Spanish Creek during September and October of 2014. Volumes diverted for those months are estimates based upon stream flow conditions. The numbers are expressed to reflect reduced flow and do not necessarily reflect accurate measurements of reduced diversion. |

5. Water Diversion Measurement
|
a. |
Measurement |
Direct measurement using a device listed in Section 1 is
"not locally cost effective" for water directly diverted
and/or diverted to storage
|
b. |
Types of measuring devices used |
-
Other: Volume diverted is calculated from diameter of pipe drawing water and visual estimate of reduced stream flow
|
c. |
Additional technology used |
|
Description of additional technology used |
Volume capacity of pipe and visual estimation of reduced stream flow.
|
d. |
Who installed your measuring device(s) |
|
e. |
Make, model number, and last calibration date of your measuring device(s) |
N/A
|
f. |
Why direct measurement using a device listed in Section 1 is
"not locally cost effective"
|
-
Diversion is small or minimal in size
-
Diversions are infrequent
-
Other
|
Explanation of why use of devices and technologies listed in
Section 1 are "not locally cost effective"
|
Diversion of water from this source is minimal relative to other sources for Spanish Ranch. Water is used primarily for dust abatement at the gravel operations on site. The balance of water diverted goes to irrigation, stock watering, dust abatement elsewhere on the ranch, limited domestic, and fire prevention; or it is left in the watercourse for beneficial uses of wildlife and habitat. Reduced stream flows during the fall of 2014 resulted in reduced diversions.
|
g. |
Method(s) used as an alternative to direct measurement |
-
Modeled/estimated flows
-
Pipe/trajectory method
|
Explanation of method(s) used as an alternative to direct measurement |
Volume of pipe and rate of water flow used to calculate volume of diversion.
|
6. Purpose of Use
|
Domestic |
Lawn and garden uses
|
Irrigation |
150
Acres
|
Stockwatering |
60-80 cows and horses
|
Other |
Dust abatement, in-stream, and fire protection
|
7. Changes in Method of Diversion |
Two wells were on-line during 2014 to provide residential, in-home use of water. Most water used for domestic was for watering lawns and gardens, keeping lands surrounding homes more fire resistant.
|
8. Conservation of Water |
a. |
Are you now employing water conservation efforts? |
Yes
|
Describe any water conservation efforts you have initiated |
Installed two wells for providing water to domestic uses.
|
b. |
Amount of water conserved |
0.50
Acre-Feet
|
I have data to support the above surface water use reductions due
to conservation efforts.
|
No
|
9. Water Quality and Wastewater Reclamation |
a.
|
Are you now or have you been using reclaimed water from a wastewater
treatment facility, desalination facility, or water polluted by waste to
a degree which unreasonably affects such water for other beneficial
causes?
|
No
|
b. |
Amount of reduced diversion |
|
Type of substitute water supply |
|
Amount of substitute water supply used |
|
I have data to support the above surface water use reductions due to the
use of a substitute water supply
|
|
10. Conjuctive Use of Surface Water and Groundwater |
a. |
Are you now using groundwater in lieu of surface water?
|
Yes
|
b. |
Amount of groundwater used |
0.5
Acre-Feet
|
I have data to support the above surface water use reductions due to
the use of groundwater.
|
No
|
11a. Additional Remarks |
Clean water regulations for domestic water supplies resulted in the installation of two wells on Spanish Ranch for providing water to homes and trailers located there. Devices for measuring groundwater consumption are being developed and installed.
Further, installation of measurement devices for use of riparian water are being installed to provide more accurate numbers for water actually diverted for riparian uses at Spanish Ranch.
