5. Water Diversion Measurement
a. Measurement
Water directly diverted and/or diverted to storage was measured
b. Types of measuring devices used
  • Other: Capacity of diversion works: flume 24" x 12", estimated to be 100 gpm
c. Additional technology used
  • Other
Description of additional technology used Estimate of volume diverted is based upon historic and current use by flume or ditch 24" wide by 12" deep, which approximates, according to past reports filed, 100 gallons per minute. Per month, this gives 4,320,000 gallons per month, or 13.26 Ac Ft. (4,320,000 gal / 325,851 gal per Ac Ft.) As the water flows decrease during the late summer and fall, the amount diverted is reduced also. These values are estimated and not calculated, and are provided to give relative values for this report.
d. Who installed your measuring device(s)
  • Other: Prior owner of Spanish Ranch
e. Make, model number, and last calibration date of your measuring device(s) N/A
f. Why direct measurement using a device listed in Section 1 is "not locally cost effective"
Explanation of why use of devices and technologies listed in Section 1 are "not locally cost effective"
g. Method(s) used as an alternative to direct measurement
Explanation of method(s) used as an alternative to direct measurement As stated in 5c, above, estimate of volume diverted is based upon historic and current use by flume or ditch 24" wide by 12" deep, which approximates, according to past reports filed, 100 gallons per minute.
6. Purpose of Use
Domestic 12 houses, 4 trailers; minor amounts
Irrigation 150 Acres
Stockwatering 60-80 cows and horses
Other Dust abatement, in-stream, and fire protection
7. Changes in Method of Diversion
Towards the end of 2013 two wells were installed on Spanish Ranch to provide for water in compliance with clean water regulations for domestic use. This groundwater use reduced the amount of water used for domestic uses by approximately 0.5 Ac Ft. (estimated). The resulting water savings was either left in Spanish Creek for beneficial uses of wildlife and habitat, or was used in the irrigation with excess returning to Spanish Creek. These amounts are not measured nor estimated.
8. Conservation of Water
a. Are you now employing water conservation efforts? Yes
Describe any water conservation efforts you have initiated Towards the end of 2013 two wells were installed on Spanish Ranch to provide for water in compliance with clean water regulations for domestic use. These amounts are not measured nor estimated.
b. Amount of water conserved Acre-Feet
I have data to support the above surface water use reductions due to conservation efforts. No
9. Water Quality and Wastewater Reclamation
a. Are you now or have you been using reclaimed water from a wastewater treatment facility, desalination facility, or water polluted by waste to a degree which unreasonably affects such water for other beneficial causes? No
b. Amount of reduced diversion
Type of substitute water supply
Amount of substitute water supply used
I have data to support the above surface water use reductions due to the use of a substitute water supply
10. Conjuctive Use of Surface Water and Groundwater
a. Are you now using groundwater in lieu of surface water? Yes
b. Amount of groundwater used 0.5 Acre-Feet
I have data to support the above surface water use reductions due to the use of groundwater. No
11a. Additional Remarks
Water not directly used is allowed to remain in Spanish Creek for the beneficial uses of wildlife and habitat. Excess water from irrigation is returned to Spanish Creek. The volumes of such water are not known. Diversions decrease in the fall of the year as water flows in Spanish Creek decrease. Amount of decrease is estimated in this report to provide a reasonable approximation of the reduced diversion for the riparian uses.
