Conservation of Water
Are you now employing water conservation efforts? Yes
Description of water conservation efforts The District maximizes the beneficial use of water through implementation of numerous water conservation efforts including, but not limited to, recirculation of drain water, automated water level control structures, variable frequency drives at pumping facilities, irrigation scheduling techniques and technologies, weed management programs, and educational tools for District staff and its landowners. In addition, the District¿s landowners have implemented numerous water conservation efforts including, but not limited to, land leveling, irrigation scheduling techniques and technologies, installation of drip irrigation systems, varietal changes, drainage improvements, reduced spill from rice fields, and minimum tillage techniques. The total quantity of water conserved by the District each year is variable and depends upon numerous factors including, but not limited to, climatic conditions, hydrologic conditions, District operational practices, and on-farm operational practices. Differentiating and measuring or quantifying conserved water for some efforts is difficult, and in some cases, not possible or feasible due to the complexity of the multiple variables involved. The District will continue to implement the best available and locally feasible conservation methods to improve their irrigation delivery system and water use efficiency. Water conservation quantities claimed under this licence are the total amounts of drain water diverted at multiple pumping facilities under licences filed with the State Water Resource Control Board, as well as District¿s rights to re-divert and reuse tailwater within its service area originally diverted from the Feather River pursuant to License 9063 (Application 10529), as well as the District¿s Agreement with the Department of Water Resources, dated May 27, 1969, and the Pre-1914 water rights (S000480) of the Joint Water District Board, of which the District is a member, combined with estimated actual reduction in diversion based on the District's landowners participation in the 2010 temporary cropland idling program. The District and its landowners participated in a water transfer program which involved the temporary idling of approximately 1866 acres within the District. This program resulted in a consumptive use savings of approximately 6159 acre-feet. The actual reduction in diversion resulting from the 2010 cropland idling program are estimated to be approximately 16420 acre-feet.
Amount of water conserved 37380 Acre-Feet
