Conservation of Water |
Are you now employing water conservation efforts? |
Yes
|
Description of water conservation efforts |
Optimum water conservation efforts are ongoing and include, but are not limited to good water management and farming practices such as, re-circulation system, crop shifts, varietal changes and laser leveling of fields. The total quantity of water conserved during each year is variable and depends upon numerous factors, including but not limited to climatic conditions, hydrologic conditions, the company¿s operational practices, and on-farm operational practices. Differentiating and measuring or quantifying conserved water for some efforts is not possible or feasible due to the complexity of the multiple variables involved. Therefore, the annual quantity of water conserved (13,832 acre-feet) is estimated based on the difference between the 29,300 acre-feet authorized for diversion under the Company¿s Contract with the Bureau of Reclamation, No. 14-06-200-878A-R-1, and the 15,468 acre-feet put to beneficial use by River Garden Farms Company in 2009. This quantity includes conserved water under the Company¿s License Nos. 1718, 3123, and 4636 (Applications 575, 577, and 11910, respectively), riparian claims, and the Contract with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.

Additional Remarks |
The acreage identified in this report receives water under River Garden Farms Company¿s water right Licenses Nos. 1718 (A575), 3123 (A 577), 4636 (A11910), and between Contract No. 14-06-200-878A-R-1 between the Company and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. The water under all the Company¿s rights is conveyed using the same facilities.
Monthly diversions from the Sacramento River are measured and include water diverted under License Nos. 1718 (A575), 3123 (A 577), riparian claims and are covered under the Settlement Contract. Therefore, to determine the quantities to be reported under this license first an estimate was made of the quantity diverted under the Company¿s riparian rights. This quantity was estimated based on irrigation requirements for the crops grown on the Company¿s riparian and non-riparian lands. The estimated riparian diversions are reported under Initial Statements of Diversion and Use filed for the Company¿s Townsite and Missouri Bend Pumping Plants. The remaining portions of the measured diversion were then allocated to the Licenses in order of priority until all measured monthly diversions were accounted for. The diversion quantities identified in the Reports of Licensee for Licenses Nos. 1718, 3123, together with the two Initial Statement of Diversion and Use equal the diversions measured by Reclamation at River Garden Farms Company¿s Sacramento River point of diversions.
